La première version de Streams of Whispers (Torrents de chuchotements), terminée en octobre 2001, prenait la forme d’une installation sonore conçue pour la cage d’escalier de la Latvian House à Toronto, pendant une résidence en art sonore chez Charles Street Video. L’idée sous-tendant l’installation consistait à concevoir la cage d’escalier comme un lieu de migration ou de transition, ou d’une manière plus figurative, comme un courant d’eau que des particules sonores traversent pour se rendre d’un point à un autre. La version pour concert présentée sur ce disque est un condensé en 12 minutes des 45 minutes composées pour l’installation. Tous les matériaux sonores utilisés dans la pièce proviennent des phonèmes de son titre, dits et chuchotés. |

Streams of Whispers was originally completed in October 2001 as a sound installation for the stairwell of the Latvian House in Toronto during an audio art residency at Charles Street Video. The idea behind the installation was to think of the stairwell as a place of migration or transition, or perhaps more figuratively like a current of water through which particles of sound flow from one point to another. The concert version included on this recording condenses the 45-minute composition for the installation into 12 minutes. All of the sound material used in the piece is derived from the spoken and whispered phonemes of the title. |
