isms was inspired by an electroacoustic work I created while studying in Rotterdam. I found a program online which produced very interesting sounds that I chose to together with other sounds I had collected. isms is in no way a transcription of the original sounds, but loosely inspired by them. The piece represents a new direction for me as a composer. It is also a tribute to the Bozzini Quartet and their specific style and quality as performers of contemporary music. I attended several of their concerts in the 2011-2012 season, and got to know their way of playing and particular sound quite well. The piece is notated spatially, and the quartet use stopwatches to keep track of time. |
