Hugo Harmens (1983) is a Norwegian composer who began his musical journey as a singer. As he progressed from performing written music to improvising and exploring the potential of the human voice, he gained an interest in composing music. His composition studies started in Kraków, Poland, where he spent a year studying with Maciej Jablonski and Wojciech Widlak. He went on to complete a Bachelor's degree at the Rotterdam Conservatory (Codarts) with teachers such as Robin de Raaff, Jan-Bas Bollen, Luc Brewaeys, and Paul van Brugge (jazz). Hugo Harmens tries to explore different paths as a composer, and improvisation continues to be an important part of his compositional process. He recently went on to do his Master's at McGill University, studying with Brian Cherney. |
