James Wyness is a composer and sound artist living in Southern Scotland. A native of Aberdeen, he studied French at Aberdeen University. His current research into stereo and multi-channel acousmatic composition focuses on the detailed investigation of the sound object, on syntactical unfolding through the musical process, and on the contrast and dialectic between overtly musical material on the one hand and mimetic material on the other. As a sound artist his research focuses on multi-channel sound installation exploring ethnography, documentary and archive and in the establishment of a working critical discourse. He is currently completing a PhD in composition with Pete Stollery at the University of Aberdeen His concert works, radio works and sound installations have been recognised, performed and presented internationally. |
