Biographie
Bio : Alejandro Escuer is one of the leading creative flutists in the American Continent. Prized by the media (such as Time Magazine) and composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen and world famous flutist Robert Dick, Alejandro Escuer enjoys an international reputation both as a flutist, professor and improviser. He has developed his own artistic foundations on music interpretation which have had an impact on his concerts and recordings. Composers from Mexico and all over the world have dedicated many pieces to him.

He has been the recipient of numerous prizes and awards, including a Rockefeller Foundation Award (1995), The National Interpreters Competition, first prize (1986, 87); The National Scholarship for the Arts (1989, 91, 95); Líderes de México Honorary Award (1998), and several recognitions and fellowships from Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (1992, 95, 96, 98, 2000, 04).

Alejandro Escuer is the founder and artistic director of Onix Ensamble de México, a unique group in the country devoted to Mexican and international new music concerts, forums and lectures all year round. He is also an active scholar (full-time tenure faculty at the Escuela Nacional de Música of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), and as such he has been giving master classes and lectures in Mexico and the USA

Including his stay as visiting professor at Columbia University, University of California, CalArts, Mills College, Mannes College, New York University. He has been appointed member of the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes since 2001 and he is a member of the Consejo Mexicano de la Música (part of the International Music Council, UNESCO).

Alejandro Escuer holds degrees from Conservatorio Nacional de Música (BA) and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (BA). He obtained his soloist degree from Sweelinck Conservatorium Amsterdam in 1991 (MA Uitvoerend Musicus), and earned a doctorate in 1995 from New York University (PhD in Music Performance).
