Allison Cameron a grandi à Vancouver et a étudié à Amsterdam avant d’émigrer à Toronto. Compositrice très active et très appréciée, Cameron est souvent invitée à des festivals internationaux, et ses œuvres sont interprétées par plusieurs ensembles de musique actuelle dont Arraymusic, Hemispheres, Vancouver New Music et le Maarten Altena Ensemble d’Amsterdam. Elle a mis sur pied des groupes torontois comme l’Arcana Ensemble et le Drystone Orchestra. Allison Cameron a aussi quelques disques compacts à son actif, dont un sur l’étiquette new-yorkaise XI Records (Experimental Intermedia). |

Canadian composer of mostly chamber works that have been performed throughout Europe and North America; she is also active as an experimental performer. Ms Cameron studied with Louis Andriessen, Gilius van Bergeijk, Per Nørgård, and Frederic Rzewski in Europe and Rudolf Komorous, Michael Longton and James Tenney in Canada. Her works have been performed at numerous festivals, including the Bang on a Can (New York), Emerging Voices (San Diego), the Evenings of New Music (Bratislava), the Festival SuperMicMac (Montréal), the Newfoundland Sound Symposium, New Music across America, and the Rumori Dagen (Amsterdam), as well as several in Toronto. Numerous ensembles have commissioned and/or performed her works, including the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Continuum, Les Coucous Bénévoles, Ergo, the Evergreen Club Gamelan, the Ives Ensemble, the Maarten Altena Ensemble, Opera Aperta, Orkest de Volharding, the Slagwerkgroep Den Haag, the Vancouver New Music Ensemble, and the Veni Ensemble. Pianists Stephen Clarke, Eve Egoyan and John Tilbury, electric guitarist Wiek Hijmans and bass clarinettist Ronda Rindone have also played her music. She co-founded the Drystone Orchestra in 1989 and founded the Arcana Ensemble in 1992, both dedicated to the performance of experimental music in Toronto. Since 2000, she has been the artistic director of Arraymusic and has been improvising with small amplified objects, in collaboration with Éric Chenaux, the Draperies, Ryan Driver, Dan Friedman, Mike Gennaro, Kurt Newman, John Oswald, Stephen Parkinson, and Mauro Savo, among others. She also performs with the Marmots (directed by Martin Arnold). |
